The Lunch Wars
The National School Lunch Program serves over 30.7 million lunches every day across America, mainly to children living beneath the poverty line. It cost the US government $15.7 billion in 2013. With constantly increasing child obesity rates, school lunches have come under intense scrutiny by many, including parents, nutritionists, political interest groups, and the White House. With opposing opinions and different bottom lines, it is clear that there is no such thing as a free lunch.
